Frequently Asked Questions *

Is there an adoption fee?

Yes, Kitty Cove Rescue charges an adoption fee of $130 for each kitty or we have a “Sibling Special” $210 for 2. Seniors and the “Kitty of the Month” are $90. This fee includes spaying or neutering, testing for feline leukemia/FIV (6 months and up), vaccinations for feline distemper, leukemia, rabies vaccinations, deworming, and a flea treatment. Each kitty will be microchipped which includes lifetime registration. The adoption fee only covers a small portion of our investment into caring for your adopted cat. Taking all the costs of feeding and other supplies into consideration our adoption fee is very reasonable.

Please Note: You will need to bring a carrier with you at the time of adoption as our city has a Leash Law and therefore Petsense nor Kitty Cove Rescue can allow you to carry your new pet out of the store. This is for the safety of you and your cat.

What if the cat cat gets sick after adoption?

We strongly suggest that you set up an appointment with your vet within 14 days of adoption to ensure that the cat is healthy and protected from transmittable diseases. At the time of adoptions the cats have received a clean bill of health but most illnesses can lie dormant for up to 14 days You are responsible for all medical care after the adoption is finalized, unless other arrangements have been made. If there are any health concerns with the cat you are adopting, the cat will remain in our care until our vet has given a clean bill of health. This may include upper respiratory infection, skin issues, and parasites.

If for any reason you have taken your cat to the vet and the vet is requestion Euthanasia for an illness please reach out to us immediately and we will pay for a 2nd opinion.

Why is cat being microchipped?

All cats that are rescued through KCR are microchipped with Buddyid technology. This is a special program for pets that provides information for your cat to be returned to you if he/she gets lost and ends up at animal control, a veterinary office, or another rescue.

Will the cat be spayed or neutered?

Per Texas state law and Kitty Cove Rescues mission, all cats will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption or given a voucher if the kitten is not of age yet.

Where can I see available cats?

KCR does not have a shelter or facility. Our cats are all in foster homes or at Petsense. Appointments for meet and greets can be set up or you may see our full roster on Petfinder (link located under Available cats tab). We do our best to keep them fully updated.

Do you declaw your cats?

No, we do not declaw nor do we condone it. If you are adopting a cat that is declawed it was done so by the previous owner.

Can I let my cat go outside?

Most of our cats are raised as indoor only companions, and our foster homes spend a tremendous amount of time socializing them as such. Our kitties are not used to being outside and to place them in an unfamiliar situation would be detrimental to their health and well-being. Even supervised outings can end poorly if the kitty spooks or sees something of great interest in the distance and runs off and/or becomes lost. Being outside leaves them vulnerable to predators, cars, unfriendly humans, and/or other animals/cats that may carry communicable diseases. It is for these reasons and as a general safety measure that we do not allow our kitties to be adopted as outside pets if not classified as such or as barn cats. In some cases, we take in cats that are conditioned for indoor/outdoor or outdoor-only living. The information will be located in the cat’s profile. If we do not have a kitty that matches your preference for outdoor living, we highly recommend you visit your local animal control facility or shelter to rescue an animal from there.

What if I can no longer care for my cat?

If you can no longer care for your cat for whatever reason we ask that you please return to cat to us. This ensures that the cat will find another good home and not end up in a shelter or left in the elements. We may also be able to help you keep your loved one in certain situations.
